Porcelain veneers can transform a smile in as few as two dental visits. Handcrafted from durable porcelain, custom shaded to blend with your existing teeth, veneers are semi-translucent shells that your dentist can permanently bond to your front teeth. They will completely transform your smile, and they may change your life!
Porcelain veneers can mask stained, chipped, cracked, worn, or otherwise damaged teeth in the smile zone. Porcelain veneers can also close gaps and cover misshapen teeth. They change the appearance of a smile by altering color, shape, size, and overall appearance of teeth. Dental patients across the globe have experienced increased confidence and success through smile makeovers with porcelain veneers. You deserve the smile of your dreams, and porcelain veneers can give it to you!
Why should you choose porcelain veneers?
- A whiter, straighter, more aesthetic smile can make a patient appear years younger and boost self confidence. Many patients choose veneers over crowns, bonding, or braces.
- Crowns require more aggressive tooth reduction than porcelain veneers.
- Bonding is not as strong as porcelain veneers, and when natural dentition discolors, the bonded areas will be very noticeable.
- Many times, patients are not willing to undergo orthodontic treatment to correct misaligned or gapped teeth eventhough it may be the best treatment option. In many of these case, Veneers can be used to produce a beautiful smile in as few as two visits.
- Because veneers are thin and allow light to reflect from natural underlying dentition, they look completely natural.
How are porcelain veneers applied?
Your dentist will first measure your facial features, review necessary xrays, check your jaw joints for any discomfort or instability, check your bite relationship, discuss your ideal smile, and record data to make sure we have everything covered. You may want to bring photos of smile styles you prefer but keep in mind that each smile design is dependent on the best form, function, and esthetics for each individual patient. We pay close attention to these details because the success of your new Veneers depends on harmonious function with the other teeth in your mouth and your jaw joint. A treatment plan is then prepared and discussed with you in detail.
On your first appointment, we prepare the teeth for the veneers. Porcelain veneers are thin, about .3 to .5 mm in most cases. To ensure a smooth and natural appearance, we may remove a small amount of existing tooth structure to allow proper thickness of the veneer to mask discolorations and provide stregth to the veneer. Anesthesia will be administered before tooth reduction to ensure your optimal comfort. After preparation, an impression is made to record the necessary details of your existing teeth to send to the dental lab.
Also during the first appointment, full contour temporaries are made and bonded to your teeth so you can get a feel for the way your new veneers will feel. It is at this stage that we have the freedom to change the shape, length, thickness, shade, or occlusion. Once the temporaries have fully satisfied all of your needs and wants, we can then move forward with having the permanent veeners handcrafted in a dental lab to match your exquisite temporaries.
At the second appointment, we will secure the porcelain veneers to your existing dentition and adjust your bite for maximum comfort and function.
Are there any downfalls to having porcelain veneers?
Veneers are permanent and cannot be reversed. Candidates for porcelain veneers must have good occlusion (the way your teeth fit together), a healthy and stable TMJ (jaw joint), as well as healthy teeth and gums. Veneers can last for years if they are cared for properly. Patients should not chew on hard substances, like ice, and habitual fingernail biting can wear down porcelain veneers (as well as natural teeth). Proper oral hygiene and semi-annual dental hygiene appointments are also important for longevity. Patients may experience about two weeks of mixed feelings while they adjust to the look and feel of their new smile.

Look at it like this, you pay up front at Walmart when goods are bought. They don’t send you a bill, you pay up front. Why should a dental office be any different? They deserve payment for services rendered, they work hard and some people who don’t pay their bills ruin it for everybody, they have to look out for themselves too.Paige Bridgers
