Do you have jaw pain or frequent headaches?
Many people grind or clench their teeth and are often unaware of it. Although teeth grinding (bruxism) and clenching may happen at any time during the day, it often happens at night while you are asleep. These habits are multifactorial and can have many different causes. Stress is a very common cause, but there can also be discrepancies in the way your teeth fit together and function that can lead to clenching and bruxing. Often the reason is not known.
Symptoms of clenching and grinding can include a sore, tired jaw, headaches, earaches, and sensitive teeth. Often there are no symptoms, and many patients are not even aware of their habit. In these cases, the diagnosis is usually made from observing some of the cardinal signs during an exam. These can include chipped, worn, flattened, grooved, and/or cracked teeth. If left unchecked, severe cases can lead to extensive loss of tooth structure and function and require rehabilitation.
In most cases, treatment involves the use of occlusal splints or guards that are worn primarily at night. These appliances can come in many different shapes and sizes and are tailored to each specific case. In most cases, the primary function of the appliance is to protect the teeth from fracture or wear, and to decrease the pressure placed on the jaw-closing muscles. This in affect “deprograms” the muscles and leads to relatively rapid relief from muscle tension and thus soreness and headaches. The most common appliance used by the doctors at BlueWave Dentistry is the NTI-tss. It is one of the only dental appliances approved by the FDA for the treatment of migraine and tension-type headaches.

Look at it like this, you pay up front at Walmart when goods are bought. They don’t send you a bill, you pay up front. Why should a dental office be any different? They deserve payment for services rendered, they work hard and some people who don’t pay their bills ruin it for everybody, they have to look out for themselves too.Paige Bridgers
