Dr. Chad Biggerstaff, DDS
Like Dr. Sweeney, Chad is a native of the area. He was born and raised in Wilmington, NC graduating from John T. Hoggard high school in 1994. He went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for undergraduate studies, pharmacy school, and later dental school. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from the UNC School of Pharmacy in 2000. More import than his degree, he met his wife and soul mate, Julie while attending pharmacy school together. Chad was an avid cyclist at the time, competing in road and mountain bike races throughout the state and region. In August of 2000, within months of graduating, he was struck and almost killed by an automobile while on a training ride in Chapel Hill.
Oddly enough, days before the accident Chad met Dr. Sweeney for the first time during orientation for dental school at UNC. Despite being the same age, growing up miles apart, and both being avid surfers, they had never met. Obviously an instant bond was formed and they became good friends. As a result of the accident, Chad was forced to withdraw from their dental school class. After several months of recovery, Chad went to work as a pharmacist supporting Julie until she graduated from pharmacy school in 2003. Chad went back to the UNC School of Dentistry in the fall of 2003 and graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 2007.
Chad was awarded numerous honors and distinctions throughout his years in dental school. During his junior year, he was recognized as the American Prosthodontics Society Foundations Scholar for excellence in prosthodontics. His senior year, he was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) National Dental Honor Society. He was also given senior class awards from the Southeastern Academy of Prosthodontics, the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, the NC Academy of General Dentistry, and the UNC Departments of Periodontology and Prosthodontics. Despite receiving these awards, Chad believes that most learning occurs after school. Due to the constant progression of dental technology, techniques, and materials, quality continuing dental education is a key component to clinical excellence. Both doctors have trained at the world-renowned Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, FL. They are also involved in an intensive training program at the Spear Institute in Scottsdale, AZ and are two of only 1000 or so dentists accross the country that are members of the Spear Faculty Club. Both frequently participate in various volunteer dental and service activities in the community. Chad believes that in dentistry (as well as in life) honesty, integrity, and compassion are of the utmost importance. “Treat everyone as if they are a member of your own family” is a mantra he lives and works by.
Chad is a devoted husband and father, and his faith and family are the center of his life. He, his wife Julie, and their daughters Laney and Charlee are active members of Port City Community Church in Wilmington. They enjoy spending as much time as possible on the beach and in the water. Chad grew up surfing at Wrightsville Beach, and this continues to be one of his passions in life. Chances are if you can’t catch Chad and John in the office, you can find them surfing together at one of the local beaches. Chad and his family are very excited about the opportunity to live and serve in such a beautiful area and with such wonderful people.

Look at it like this, you pay up front at Walmart when goods are bought. They don’t send you a bill, you pay up front. Why should a dental office be any different? They deserve payment for services rendered, they work hard and some people who don’t pay their bills ruin it for everybody, they have to look out for themselves too.Paige Bridgers
